Down But Surely Not Out

August 19, 2001

"I'm still feeling good about my game so I'm not that disappointed about my performance today," said K.J. after his 2-over par 72 in Round 3 on Saturday.

It looked like it was going to be another day of upward momentum for K.J. Choi after starting the day off with a birdie on hole 2 to get to 7-under par on the leaderboard.

But then quickly he found himself in a difficult situation on the next hole after driving his teeshot right and into the woods. His second shot found a tree on its way out but still remained inside the treeline, which forced his third out onto the fairway. His fourth landed on the green for a two-putt and a double bogey.

From there on, the bogeys started adding up on holes 4, 9, and 10, before making a birdie on the par 5, 12th hole. By the end of the round, K.J. made 4 birdies, 4 bogeys, and a double-bogey.

"If it weren't for my wayward driving today, I would have posted a better score", said K.J. He also noted that he's feeling confident about other areas of his game and looks to go out on Sunday to shoot a low round.

K.J. is currently tied for 14th at -4 going into Sunday's round.

A solid Top 10 finish is still within each.
