An interview with K.J. Choi
(3/30/2003)

After winning last year’s Compaq Classic and Tampa Bay Classic, K.J. earned an invitation to play at this year's Masters. This will be his first Masters' appearance and we caught up with K.J. to ask him some questions.

You've dreamed about playing The Masters someday, how significant is this to you personally?

K.J.: To me, it's such a proud moment to be not only the first Korean invited but to be invited based on my performance.

From looking at Augusta's course layout either from watching it on television or reading magazines, does it suit your game? Which part of your game will give you the most advantage?

K.J.: Since this is a shorter course, I believe that in order to perform well, I will need to place more importance on my short iron shots to the green.

How will your caddie Paul Fusco's past experience help you?

K.J.: Paul Fusco has caddied at the Masters eight times so I believe his experience will help me greatly.

How are you preparing yourself mentally/physically for this event?

K.J.: I'm carrying with me a strong belief and faith in my abilities. I have also been working on my physical endurance through hard training and workout.

You are off to a great start this year. Do you feel confident winning a major soon?

K.J.: YES!

What are you working on with your instructor Phil Ritson?

K.J.: Most of my focus has been getting my swing as 'simple' as possible.
