K.J.'s Masters Diary: Day 7 (Friday - Round
3)
It felt good to start off by finishing
the 2nd round with a good score. I felt a little
tired and heavy this morning and new I had to
be careful. The first shot on the 4th hole went
into the bunker. I was able to save that hole
for a great par, so it gave me strength and
confidence for the rest of the day.
For the 3rd round, the weather was very sunny
and I felt good. Because it was so sunny, I
knew the greens would be faster and so I took
a more cautious approach. I used up a lot of
energy the last couple of days, so it's no secret
that I'm feeling tired. Tonight, my focus is
to get a lot of rest and just re-energize myself
for the final round. I've worked so hard for
3 rounds to get where I am right now, so I want
to maintain this on the final day. No one knows
what will happen tomorrow. Some of the best
players who have been doing so well in the first
couple of rounds can lose it all in one day.
On the other hand, you can have someone like
Jeff Maggert or Tiger Woods shoot up the leaderboard
in a round like they did today.
Definitely, this being the Masters, there will
be lots of drama. I think if I shoot 4-under
tomorrow, I might have a chance at winning this
as well. Overall, my putting was a little off.
I missed some good opportunities. I hope the
putts that didn't fall today would fall tomorrow.
Other
stuff:
On
the 6th tee where I made double bogey in round
one, I had another "accident" happen.
I had my clubs touched up a bit for this round
but felt that my 7-iron was a little unstable
for some reason. It turned out that I was right.
After my tee shot on 6, I bent down to pick
up my tee and my iron head fell off. By rule,
if a player breaks his/her club on purpose,
he/she cannot replace the club, but if it breaks
while in regular play, it can be replaced. As
soon as it happened, I had my road manager run
to the Taylormade Club trailer and bring back
one of my old 7-irons.
