K.J.'s Masters Diary: Day 1 (Sunday)
I arrived here a little early to get
to know the course a little better, and have
already played two full rounds, and like the
course very much.
Everything here has been wonderful. The course
is great, the atmosphere is great, and because
all the players here are players I'm used to
seeing on Tour I feel very comfortable.
Everyone has treated me very well. It just makes
me wonder why it took me so long to finally
get here.
After playing two rounds, I think I'm a lot
more comfortable with the course. I think Amen
Corner will be tricky, but if I can get through
that safely I should be fine.
The most difficult part about the course are
the greens. They're very slopey and fast. My
key focus on preparing for the Masters has been
my putting. I've been working on it a lot this
past week and I am starting to feel very confident
about it.
The short iron game will be important too. That
could be what decides my final outcome. My short
game feels really good right now, and I have
great touch on my shots. If my short iron and
putting are on, I am certain I will have great
results.
My caddie, Paul Fusco, has caddied here 8 times
already, so I'll tap into his experiences as
well.
Mentally,
through my faith in God I am finding peace and
physically all the strength and endurance training
that I have been doing should help out a lot.
I'm not really preparing for the Masters any
differently than I would for any other event.
I'm approaching it the same way as any other.
Because this is my first Masters, I'm hoping
that I can have good experiences and have good
results.
